“Twilight” star Ashley Greene recalled future Taylor Lautner being called “Jacob Black Wolf,” a reputation that was at stake when the 2009 sequel “New Moon” arrived.

“I don’t remember them actually waiting for anyone, but I do remember there was some discussion about whether or not he could be traded for something,” said Greene, who plays Alice Cullen. An episode of his podcast, The Twilight Effect, aired on Tuesday.
Green’s comments about Lautner were prompted by his girlfriend Melanie Howe, who highlighted rumors that the actor would be rehired if he failed to make a physical transformation.
In “New Moon,” Jacob played a prominent role after vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) left Forks, Washington, trying to protect the human story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).
In Edward’s absence, Bella finds comfort in her childhood friend Jacob, who has grown into a paunchy teenager with short hair.

After the successful release of Twilight in 2008, Summit Entertainment moved forward with a series based on the fantasy book series by Stephenie Meyer.
In December of that year, the studio shared a press release announcing that Chris Weitz had been selected to direct New Moon, taking over from Twilight director Kathryn Hardwick. The press release mentions that Pattinson and Stewart are returning, but Lautner’s name did not appear in the description of the film.
A report by MTV News that actor Michael Copon was being considered for the role of an older, mature Jacob further fueled speculation about the reboot.
“I think we can all change at that point,” he said. “So I think there’s a lot of pressure on poor young Taylor.”
