Millions could miss out on £250 a year savings on broadband because many providers don’t support public pricing. The US is locked in a 5G arms race between the big three operators – Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. Each is deploying its 5G technology in different areas at its own pace, so the race is far from over. However, 5G coverage is currently not as far-reaching as 4G LTE. It is mostly confined to large cities and densely populated areas, leaving rural communities in the dust. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best rural carriers available in the US.

While Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile battle over who has the best 5G network in the US, millions of Americans are still hoping for more reliable 4G. So, if you’re one of the many Americans who live in a rural area outside of the nation’s major cities, here’s a look at the top three carriers.

Fast data is great if you can get it, but what if you want to stay connected? In a 2019 study, OpenSignal divided the rural United States into three categories: remote, remote, and remote — and communication is probably one of your top priorities if you fall into that category.

Verizon Vs. At&t Vs. T Mobile Compared: How To Pick The Best 5g Carrier For You

When looking at 4G availability alone, Verizon takes the cake. Customers in remote areas spend an average of at least 83.5% of their time within 4G, while customers in nearby areas spend more than 95% of their time connected to 4G.

T-Mobile won the silver medal, as rural customers spend 77.4% to 92.3% of their time on 4G. AT&T is in third place with an average uptime of 75.5% to 88.8%. When OpenSignal did its research, Sprint backed off, even though it’s now part of the T-Mobile umbrella.

OpenSignal says most rural Americans will have to wait several years to see 5G connectivity. However, WhistleOut has closely followed the growth of 5G over the past year. T-Mobile offers the best 5G coverage, covering about 41% of the United States. Verizon’s low-band network (nationwide) covers about 11% of the country, while AT&T’s low-band network is slightly ahead at 18%.

All of this means you’re less likely to get low-band coverage if you travel to rural areas of the United States, but T-Mobile is your best bet if you’re hoping to try 5G. WhistleOut also offers a state-by-state breakdown of your best coverage options. The long table contains the best 4G and 3G coverage in each region and the level of coverage in each region. Availability is king, but what if the network is so slow you want to tear your hair out? Does Verizon retain the crown, or is there room for other carriers to get back into the picture?

AT&T has the upper hand in terms of download speed and latency, but T-Mobile is close behind. While Verizon is third for download speed, with the fastest upload speed, T-Mobile comes in second. Sprint comes in last again, though it still doesn’t matter since the network is gone.

For obvious reasons, download speeds drop as you move away from more populated areas, but AT&T’s network remained very strong, averaging between 14.6 Mbps and 20.2 Mbps. T-Mobile ranges from 13.6 Mbps to 20 Mbps, Verizon from 12.3 Mbps to 19.5 Mbps, and Sprint from 9.5 Mbps to 15.1 Mbps.

While upload speed is important, it is not as important as download speed. Users will have a better everyday experience with faster download speeds on the AT&T network. If you need faster upload speeds than download speeds, Verizon is your best bet.

The best land manager is the one that best suits your needs. No carrier is perfect, but some are worse than others. You should always do your research before making a decision. We’ll break down the pros and cons of each of the three, and offer some alternatives if you’re looking to save some money in the process.

If your main concern is getting as much 4G LTE coverage as possible in the United States, Verizon is the way to go. Even remote customers who spend more than 80% of their time connected to 4G service should be comfortable no matter where they live.

Verizon is of course the most expensive alternative to the Big Three, so you’ll have to be willing to pay for premium service. For that extra money, you also get a subscription to Apple Music, up to one year of Discovery Plus, and bundles of Disney Plus, ESPN Plus and Hulu. Players can enjoy up to 12 months of Google Play Pass or Apple Arcade. As a sad reminder that you’re looking for a rural company, Verizon’s mmWave 5G coverage is limited to certain major cities, though the new national network has made it easier for many to connect.

Best Business Cell Phone Plans Of 2022

Verizon may have the edge over AT&T when it comes to 4G LTE connectivity, but AT&T’s download service is slightly faster. This is probably your best option if you know that AT&T offers a solid blanket of service in your area and you want to connect it with good speeds.

AT&T is also a middle-of-the-road option when it comes to pricing—it falls roughly in the middle between Verizon and T-Mobile. Verizon is on the 5G front, offering coverage in at least parts of most Midwest states. Only the top Unlimited Elite plan offers streaming benefits, and that’s HBO Max for all your Game of Thrones needs. Right now you get six months of Stadia Pro at no extra cost.

T-Mobile’s biggest draw as a rural carrier is that it’s the most affordable network of the three — but the Sprint merger doesn’t hurt. Its speeds aren’t as fast as AT&T, and 4G LTE coverage isn’t as widespread as Verizon’s, but you’ll save $7 to $12 per line compared to more expensive carriers.

T-Mobile is also converting Sprint 5G sites to Un-Carrier towers, so the network continues to grow and evolve. However, it will take a few more years to complete the process, so don’t use 5G as your decision. Magenta plans also get you Netflix and one year of Apple TV+.
