Cooking shrimp on the stove is one of the easiest ways to prepare it! You can cook shrimp on the stove either rinsed or grilled, whichever you prefer! If using frozen shrimp, make sure it is completely thawed (see below). For this recipe, we used a simple mix of spices: minced fresh garlic and butter. How to thaw frozen shrimp? There are a few different options: if you’re ahead, refrigerate the frozen shrimp overnight.

Finally, a little note on how to buy sustainable shrimp. Alex and I try to buy sustainable seafood whenever possible. Most local grocery stores sell thawed shrimp. While this may be convenient, once it is no longer frozen, the quality and texture begin to deteriorate. After sitting for a few days it becomes moldy and therefore tends to sell.
My personal preference is to buy quick-frozen (IQF) chunks, which are sold in 1- to 2-pound bags. They are frozen soon after harvest and will have the freshest taste. To defrost, place the required amount in a colander and run under cold water until they no longer solidify, about 3 minutes.
