The easiest method is to use tannin solution. We all know tannins – what gives tea its color. It is also found in many things in nature, such as nuts and bark. Good sources of tannins are nut shells, acorn nits, chestnut nits, quebracho, tara and oak galls.

These things are boiled in water – preferably powdered before cooking – to extract the tannins they contain.

If you use this method, you will need about a cup of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of rust, and tannin solution to dye the fabric black.

Tannin must be combined with iron to act as a permanent solution; you can use rust from old nails for this. A color binder is also needed, so lemon juice or a vinegar solution is used – this is explained in the ingredient list.

Scrape the rust off the old nails or let the nails rust in water for a week or two; mix with vinegar. Add this to the tannins and you have the perfect black dye solution.

If it’s an all-black outfit, you can use hair dye – if you have black hair that turns silver, you probably already have it at home. An inexpensive option is to dye the fabric black. Not the most durable, because as we know, hair color fades after repeated washing.

How To Darken Faded Black Clothing With Coffee

You can, of course, use regular fabric dye to restore the black color to your pants permanently. Most fabric dyes are heat process dyes. Just cook with dye and get the color back. That’s how it works

First you need to get a good black dye. The choice of dye depends on the fabric. Most store-bought dyes work well with natural fabrics and blends. For synthetic materials, special dyes are required. So be careful with jeans with a high spandex content – spandex fibers are resistant to common dyes.

Fill a large pan/pot (intended for dyeing) halfway with very hot water and carefully pour the contents of the dye packet into it. Stir in half a cup of salt until dissolved. If using a color fixer, follow the directions on the bottle.

Wash your clothes if they are dirty. Otherwise, just soak the fabric and squeeze out all the water – This is to absorb the dye better.

Gently soak the clothes in the pan to absorb the water. Shake the clothes in the pot gently to distribute the color evenly. Leave for about half an hour (follow the instructions on the dye packaging)

The fabric should then be washed and dried separately. Use cold water for this. Rinse until the water is clear. After rinsing, you can use detergent to wash.

You have to wear gloves during the whole process, otherwise you will regret it (at least for a few days, because it is a black dye!).
