While my slow cooker bean recipe uses dried beans (so the whole recipe is from scratch), I actually used baked beans in this one and I love them. Since making this, I’ve been a bit of a baked bean snob. I’ve tried many different brands and types, but this particular recipe, I always come back to Bosch Ghrelin Beans. We especially love the southern pit bbq or bourbon bacon flavor. They are great in this recipe!
Also, you can use any can of baked beans you can find. Just throw out my random suggestions if you want.

Can I use dark brown sugar? yes. Since dark brown sugar has more flowers, reduce the glaze slightly.
Easy 30 Minute Vegetarian Baked Beans
Can I use baking or blackstripe glass? If you only have black bean balls, you might want to look for a baked bean recipe written specifically for black bean balls, because I don’t have any guidelines for how much you should use and, frankly, I I feel like that. The flavor will be too strong for Boston-style baked beans.
If you only have baking powder, which is a mixture of fancy and blackstripe glaze, you might try cutting the flower size in half and replacing the excess with honey or maple syrup. I have not tested this myself.
Can I make this in a slow cooker/instant pot? As I often say, you can do whatever you want, but this classic recipe was written to be baked in the oven, and that’s the only way I’ve made it. As such, you may want to look for recipes written specifically for slow cookers or instant pots for any necessary adjustments.
Leftover beans can be left in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Fully cooked beans can also be frozen for 2-3 months.

Basically, there are two simple steps to preparing beans for baking. In a large pan, combine the beans, chopped bacon and chopped onion. No need to cook the bacon first.
Next, in a small bowl or large measuring cup, mix together the ingredients for the sauce: tomato sauce, brown sugar, cumin, mustard, and vinegar.
