Business hours are the hours of the day during which business is normally conducted. Trading hours generally vary by country. By following common informal norms for working hours, employees can communicate more easily with each other and bridge the gap between work and home life.
Tech Support (short 2015)
In Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, the hours of 9 am to 5 pm (traditionally “9 to 5”) are generally considered standard business hours. However, US government agencies typically operate between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The subject of standard hours is hotly debated in modern times.
In Finland, government agencies and other institutions follow the time of 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Banks usually open at 4:30 p.m. Normal business is Monday to Friday, but the main shops are generally open Saturday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm, with exceptions.
In Mexico, normal working hours are 7 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm. (At least in Mexico City most offices are open between 8 and 10 a.m. and close between 6 or 7 p.m. Some offices close early on Fridays. Many offices are staffed on Saturday afternoons. They work until lunch time (usually 2 p.m.).
Other countries have different business hours. In hot weather many workers work during the afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm, take a short break during business hours, and continue business in the evening. La siesta is a Spanish word that refers to a 15-30 minute nap.

Business hours are usually weekdays. However, the days of the week on which business is conducted also vary by region of the world.
Many businesses and organizations have extended or limited hours of operation if they are in business. For example, hotels, airports, and hospitals are open 24 hours a day, and transactions can be made at any time, therefore requiring the availability of staff and management at all times. Direct communication technologies such as smartphones have also expanded the workday.
In some jurisdictions, laws or regulations may require businesses to limit their trading hours. For example, some Western countries prohibit certain businesses from doing business on Sunday, considered a day of rest in Christianity. Businesses that serve hot food or alcoholic beverages often have restricted business hours.
In Greece, working hours on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday are usually 9 am to 3 pm, while Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are usually 9 am to 2 pm and 5 pm. :30 PM to 9 PM.
The 24 Hour Military Time System
Large shops and supermarkets follow extended business hours and are open from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 8pm on Saturday. All shops are generally closed on Sundays, but there are exceptions throughout the year. Banking and civil service hours are generally 8 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday.

In the United States, the US Department of Labor requires companies to pay overtime to those who work more than 40 hours per week.
Businesses often do not schedule employees to work more than 40 hours per week because they want to avoid overtime pay.
