Some people don’t know that before becoming a police officer, he wanted to be an accountant. How did you get the law? In our latest GI Exclusive Vault interview, Ronnie Coleman details how he went from accountant dreamer to police officer.
There is no denying that Ronnie Coleman is one of the most famous athletes in sports history. That’s why we decided to make a documentary about his life – Ronnie Coleman: The King. Although this film details the past and the present, we couldn’t fit it all into one film.
That’s why we’re releasing an extended interview from the Ronnie Coleman: The King editing room. These GI Vault episodes help paint a more detailed picture of the legendary man known as “The King.” In this latest documentary, Ronnie Coleman details how he became a police officer. Surprisingly, this was not his first choice and the reason he ended up on this path was more of a coincidence.
Meet The Steroid Man
When Ronnie Coleman moved to Texas, he wanted to find a job as an accountant. It was what he was good at and it seemed like a safe career path. He had one problem, every job he applied for required previous experience. Ronnie had no accounting experience at the time and was struggling to find work.
But with rent and new car payments, he had to find something fast. He took a job at Domino’s Pizza to make ends meet. During this time, he was still looking for and applying for a career as an accountant. No luck.
Suddenly, he saw an advertisement in the newspaper to join the police force. One keyword caught his attention – no experience needed. After months of being told he had no experience, this position seemed like an obvious choice for Ronnie. Becoming a police officer can be a stable (albeit risky) career path. Definitely better than working at Domino’s.
We all know what happened next. Ronnie Coleman became a police officer, dedicated bodybuilder and Mr. Champion. Final 8x Olympia. Ronnie Coleman becoming a police officer is part of the legend behind the legend. Interestingly, in another reality he would have been a cashier.
Ronnie Coleman: Bodybuilding Has Got Him On Crutches, Yet He Keeps On Working Out
Maybe we can call it fate. But in the end, his career as a police officer was never planned. It’s a coincidence. Very lucky. This changes everything.

Ronald Dean Coleman (born May 13, 1964) is also a retired professional bodybuilder. He won the Mr. Olympia title eight years in a row and is considered the greatest bodybuilder of all time and one of the two greatest bodybuilders along with Arnold Schwartzger.
Coleman was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 for his dominance and legacy in the world of bodybuilding.
There, he played middle linebacker for the GSU Tigers under coach Eddie Robinson. After graduation, he couldn’t find a job as an accountant, instead he worked at Domino’s Pizza and ate free pizza every day because he was so poor he could barely eat after work.
Ronnie Coleman Details ‘million Dollar’ Earnings During Career:
He became a police officer in Arlington, Texas, serving as a sergeant from 1989 to 2000 and as a reserve officer until 2003.
Coleman’s business partner, Gustavo Arlotta, suggested he join Metroflex Gym, owned by Brian Dobson, a prominent bodybuilder. Dobson offered Coleman a free lifetime membership if he would allow Dobson to train Mr. Texas Future 1990.
After training with “Mr. Texas,” Coleman was ranked first in the heavyweight division and overall. Dobson himself lost. Coleman won his first professional tournament, the Canadian Pro Cup, in 1995. He won again the following year, winning the 1997 Russian Grand Prix. In the mid-1990s, he also participated in powerlifting competitions.
His rise in bodybuilding was quite slow: his first competition was Mr. Olympia 1992 (the most famous in the world), where he did not place; 15th in 1995, 10th, 6th in 1996, 9th in 1997. Dorian Yates won his sixth and final championship before retiring.
Ronnie Coleman Net Worth
The following year, Ness Wheeler was recognized as the 10th Mr. Olympia winner, with his main competitors being Nasser El-Sambati, Kevin Levrone and Sean Ray. Coleman, however, greatly enhanced his reputation in the bodybuilding community by winning Night of Champions earlier this year, making significant progress on the podium and defeating Wheeler by three points to claim his first Men’s Olympia.
Coleman defended his title in the 2005 competition, winning eight straight and tied with Lee Haney for the most successful Mr. Olympia in history. In 2001, he became the first person to win both the Arnold Classic and the Mr. Arnold Championship. Olympia in the same year (only Dexter Jackson repeated the feat in 2008). Coleman won the Mr. Olympia title in 2006 when three-time runner-up Jay Cutler earned his first win. This is the second time in the tournament’s history that a defending champion has lost the title (rather than retired). The last one happened in 1970 when Arnold Schwarzegger defeated Sergio Oliva. Coleman was an Olympian in 2007, finishing fourth.
Coleman’s success as a professional bodybuilder has resulted in numerous product endorsements and other career opportunities, and he has traveled the world to promote them.

Coleman supports the organization Inner City Games, which he co-founded with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1991. In 2001, he received the Texas Admiral’s Certificate Award from Texas Governor Rick Perry for excellence in bodybuilding and fitness.
